Wranglers Wranglers– 16 yrs. and older (it is perferable that you have horse experience enough to lead on trail rides) Reports To: Horse Program Director Who You Serve: Horse Program Director, horses, and the campers
General Responsibilities:
- Spend time alone with the Lord everyday; be in the Word!
- Study your Wrangler manual and become familiar with the rules.
- Assist Horse Program Director (HPD) in feeding and caring for the horses morning and night.
- Be ready to help HPD with the horse program 1/2 hour before it starts. This may include grooming and saddling the horses. Help lead horses for the horse program. After program time, un-tack the horses and water them.
- Help exercise the horses during the afternoon/evening
- Talk to the campers as you take them on trail rides, and encourage them in the theme for the day.
- Fill out Camp Evaluation on Friday afternoon.
Specific Jobs: (Note: Jobs are subject to change at HPD discretion.)
Caring for horses:
- Feed & Water
- Grooming & picking hooves
- Cooling off horses
Lead Trail Rides:
- Help campers mount correctly, make sure helmets and stirrups fit each camper
- Lead on trail ride, making sure everyone stays together
- Return riders safely back to the barn
Maintain Tack Room:
- Keep tidy and tack put where it belongs
- Clean tack regularly
- Clean up trash and clutter around barn & picnic table
Other horse jobs:
- Clean up horse manure around hitching posts and horse area.
- Bring hay up for horses
Evenings:

Wrangler Schedule Wranglers follow a unique schedule that changes often due to how many campers attend each week, the weather, and other factors. They get up at 6 am, work hard, and in the evenings, after the horses are fed, they join the Support Staff and follow their schedule till lights out.
Packing List We will give you 5 staff camp shirts to wear each week, and you can wash them on the weekends. At the end of your volunteer time, we ask that you return the shirts. You will receive a camp theme shirt at the end of your time of service as our gift to you.
- Jeans for each day
- Shorts for free time
- Modest swimsuits & flip flops
- Boots, and sneakers or other closed toed shoes
- Flashlight
- Sleeping Bag and pillow
- Towel and washcloth
- Toiletries (soap, shampoo toothbrush, etc)
- Watch, Bible, notebook, and pen
- Jacket and long pants for cool evenings
- Insect repellent, sunscreen, and a hat
- Pocket knife
- Theme costume- pack loose-fitting athletic shorts for your sporty Olympic costume!
- Girls camps only-white dress shirt and black slacks
- Instruments (if you desire)
Staff Laundry
Please take your laundry home on the weekends, or do your laundry at camp on Saturday (if you are staying the weekends). Of course if you run out of socks or your clothes get all wet during camp, you are welcome to use the camp washer & dryer to bail you out (as it is available). Remember to initial your items so you don’t loose your favorite pair of jeans!
