Summer Camp

Details

*Angel Tree Camp

Camp David of the Ozarks is registered with Angel Tree which sends us a list of children of prisoners to invite within a 120 mile radius of the camp. CDO is not exclusive to Angel Tree families, and encourages local children of prisoners who learn about the camp via the media or school counselors, to register for camp.

*Scholarships

Camp David is a non-profit organization. Scholarships are available so your child can attend camp for free. These are made possible through caring individuals, Angel Tree, and other organizations. Please fill out the scholarship amount requested on the back of the Registration Form. If you have the financial ability to pay for all or part of the camp fee, we request you do so. This will allow us to provide scholarships to as many kids as possible. During camp your child will write a “Thank you” note to their sponsor.

*Inmate Verification

Please understand that Camp David of the Ozarks has no contact with the inmate, and this camp invite is coming from the camp- not the inmate! The inmate will have no contact with your child through our camping program. We ask for the inmate information to verify qualifications for camp scholarships only. If you child does not know their parent is incarcerated, and you don’t want them to know, please mark that on the registration.

Calling Home

Campers are allowed to use the camp phone only when they have a significant need or problem. It's simply not practical to give campers access to phones. The Camper Coach will contact parents if and when the need arises. Parents who need to contact their child should call the camp office leave a message for their child.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel your registration, please contact us quickly since some camps are full and do have waiting lists. Camp David does not issue refunds for campers who leave because of homesickness, misbehavior, or illness.

Camper Dismissal

The primary course of discipline will be to require campers to apologize to the one they have offended and serve a consequence. If the camper is destructive, abusive or unresponsive to steps the Camper Coach has taken, the parent/guardian will be contacted. If there is no change on the part of the child, the child will be sent home. Campers will also be dismissed for leaving camp property without permission, sneaking items that are not allowed (cigarettes), and repeatedly bullying other campers.

No Laundry

Laundry facilities are not available for campers, so please pack enough clothes for 4 days. Of course, in emergency situations, staff are happy to wash sleeping bags or other clothing. All clothes should be labeled with the camper's name.

Lost and Found

Items left behind are kept in a Lost & Found box until August 15th. We are happy to return items, but do ask that you reimburse us for postage costs.

Other Questions

If you have any other questions please contact us.

*Camp Times and Transportation
Each week of camp begins at 2:00 pm on Monday and ends at 9:30 am on Friday. If your child needs transportation to and from camp- be sure to mark that on your registration! We will send a letter one week before your child’s camp with the drop off and pick-up times and location. For example, the pick-up spot in St. Louis is the Galleria Mall at 11:30 am on Mondays and 12:30 pm on Fridays. Please note: if your child gets sick at camp, you will need to provide transportation home.

*Packing List for Camp:

  • T– shirts and shorts (play clothes!)
  • Long pants and a jacket
  • Pajamas and underwear
  • Towel and washcloth
  • Sleeping bag and pillow
  • Swimsuit and flip- flops
  • Sneakers & socks  (not sandals)
  • Spending money for gift shop (suggested $20)

Don’t pack:

  • Cell phones, MP3 players, or gaming devises
  • Valuable clothing or jewelry
  • Cigarettes or non-prescription drugs
  • Fireworks or knives

We reserve the right to take anything from campers that we feel is contrary to the atmosphere and spirit of camp. These items will be safely stored and returned at the end of the week.

Medical Issues
When campers arrive they must turn in their medicines to the Camp Nurse (or their counselor). Please send all MEDICINE IN ORIGINAL BOTTLES- not plastic bags. The Camp Nurse will check-in campers on Monday, and check them out on Fridays. During the week the Camp Nurse is on call, and our resident Health Program Director (HPD) distributes medicine and cares for the first aid needs of the campers. The HPD resides next to the nurse’s station and is on-call 24 hours per day. Additionally, camp counselors are also trained in First Aid and CPR. If a camper becomes ill, their guardian will be contacted to come take them home.

Registration
Each camp is filled on a first-registration-received basis, so get your registration in quickly. Confirmation postcards will be sent to all campers starting in May.

Cabin Assignments
Our cabin teams typically have 4 campers per team. The teams are matched by campers that are similar in age, and siblings are divided into different teams so they can make new friends. If your child feels insecure without a sibling and they get along well, we will try to honor requests for them to be cabin mates. Friend requests to bunk together will be carefully considered. All requests for cabin mates must be made a week in advance.

*Keeping In Touch
Camp David wants to keep in touch after camp to continue  investing in your children and encouraging them to become all that God wants them to be. During the school year your child will receive a monthly newsletter with pictures from camp, a devotional, and letters. We love to hear from campers either through email or letters in the mail!
